Deinterlacer

Some projectors have a function in their menus that allows you to control the deinterlacer. Generally the deinterlacing function will have two settings: Automatic and Film mode.

In Automatic mode, the deinterlacer automatically detects what source is being fed into the projector (either film based or video-based material), and adjusts deinterlacing accordingly. In Film mode, the projector will only perform interlacing based on film sources. In other words, it will perform the reverse 3-2 pulldown operation.

Although most projectors only use the highest-quality deinterlacers, DVDs are not always encoded correctly and can fool the deinterlacer into thinking that it is receiving a different signal than it actually is.

If you think your projector might be having problems with a specific DVD, you can choose Film mode to guarantee the projector is processing the DVD signal correctly. It's important to note that the deinterlacing option will only be available if a projector detects a 480i signal.
