Is a Plasma Display Right for Me?
|
|
Is a plasma display the right choice for me? It depends on your needs.
Below is a list of common scenarios that a plasma display provides the
best performance, followed by a list of scenarios that might suggest the
need to use a different technology.
Scenarios where a plasma display will work well include:
- Any application that will require a diagonal screen of greater than 40".
- Installations that require the monitor/television to be built into a wall or cabinetry, and require a greater than a 40" diagonal image.
- Rooms that are too small for a front projection system.
- Rooms that have a great deal of ambient light. Plasmas offer very bright images.
- Any application that requires wall mounting and requires a diagonal image of greater than 40".
Scenarios where another technology might be more effective include:
- Any application that requires a small screen — less than 40" diagonal. Generally plasma displays aren't manufactured at sizes smaller than 42" diagonal.
- Applications where ambient light is controlled and the audience is at 150" or more from where the plasma screen will be placed. With these larger rooms, a front projector will be much less expensive for the size image needed to create a true home theater environment.
- Tight budgets. Plasma displays larger than 42" diagonal are expensive in comparison to new micro-display powered rear projection televisions.
